Purpose: This study examines hospital schools within Korean children’s specialized public medical centers, focusing on the interaction between educational environments and healing environments. Methods: A qualitative case analysis was conducted across major hospital schools, categorizing practices into four domains: learning continuity, daily life maintenance, social relationship formation, and living convenience for educational living environments, and natural factor, psychological stability, hygiene and safety, and social healing for healing environments. Results: Hospital schools ensure learning continuity through ICT infrastructure, remote classes, and small classroom operations, which connect to natural factors; maintain daily life through play, rest, and cultural/creative activity spaces, fostering psychological stability; promote social relationships via peer interaction areas, family participation programs, and counseling rooms, which connect to hygiene and safety; and guarantee living convenience through barrier-free design, emergency responsiveness, and accessibility, contributing to social healing. Healing and educational living environments interact synergistically, reinforcing each other to support children’s emotional stability, social development, and safe learning during treatment. Implications: The findings show the need for integrated design strategies with EBD that combine healing and educational functions.

Purpose: The development of a smart health environment begins with patient safety and is expanding to improve quality and healthcare services. Currently, guidelines for smart health environments are being proposed for the design of medical institutions. This study analyzes smart health environment data from eight hospitals in the United States and South Korea to identify facility space requirements. Methods: Data collection used the Gemini family of models API to categorize and evaluate the relationship between technology and physical space. Results: The findings establish a three-part framework for smart healthcare: technology (medical IT, robotics, and telecommunications), effectiveness (safety and resource efficiency), and facility space. Smart technology activity is highly concentrated in outpatient departments, operating rooms/treatment rooms, IT centers, laboratory, and medical equipment/medicines across both regions. However, spatial priorities differ; US hospitals show high technology density in operating and treatment rooms, which require larger footprints for robotic and hybrid surgeries, while Korean hospitals show greater integration in wards areas. Implications: It is suggested that phased smart technology guidelines tailored to specific medical functions are essential for the effective configuration of facility spaces in future healthcare environments.

Purpose: At the moment fire stations and 119 safety centers are being constructed in Korea, these make it better to respond and prepare current rising risks, and play rolls of community center for safety and health. However, they roll out under degree of dispatch golden time, and cancer incidence rates of firefighter are higher than ordinary people’s. This study has investigated the space diagram, space standard and functional relationship performances focusing on rolling out area and return area known as apparatus bay and apparatus bay support. Methods: Design Standards Guidelines for fire department and station have been studied with prompt dispatch, post-mission safe environment maintenance. Results: The first one is that apparatus bay is adjacent to turnout gear room and EMS. The second one is that apparatus bay also is adjacent to bay support area for decontamination. The third one is that decontamination room, air room, general storage, supply storage, equipment storage, EMS disinfection room and storage are designed to be adequate space, clean and tidy, visible and accessible, safe and functional. Layout of red, yellow and green zone are arranged from dirty, transitional and clean zone. Implications: In the fire station designing, it is necessary to be functional relationship adjacency and decontamination area in order to swift dispatch and safe environment.
