A Study on The Korean Soldiers Escape from The 24th Japanese Military Unit in Daegu

ABSTRACT

Japanese imperialist had to intend to mobilize the Korean youngman to made up the strength with Korean's compulsory in the Pacific War. Especially, they could have not to made up only Japanese soldiers for a long war time and the expansion of battle-lines. Therefore, Japanese enlisted Korean young man to be made up ‘Japanese soldier'. Japanese imperialism recruited Korean students by ‘the regulation of the army special volunteer temporary adoption for Korean' in 1943. Korean students who compulsory recruited soldiers by Japanese had to intend to get out of Japanese troops and to take part in independence movement for liberation of Korea everytime. Korean students did not only evasion of conscription but also escape from Japanese troops after entering barracks. Korean university students as intelligent wanted to opposite to Japanese imperialism, passively to resist by the evasion conscription and to hide themselves in mountain. They actively resisted to escape from the Japanese troops. But, not easy to escape from the Japanese troops because Japanese kept watch out Koreans in the barracks. In addition to, it was to escape from the Japanese troops by mass. None the less, six Korean soldiers of the 24th Japanese Military Unit in Daegu, attempted to escape in August, 1944. The Japanese Unit in Daegu, had taken about 600 Korean student soldiers that came from Gyeongsang Province. Korean soldiers's revolt to escape from Japanese in Daegu was the patriotic revolt to have conviction the end of Japanese imperialism after the Pacific War. Six Korean soldiers got out of Japanese in the 24th Unit in Daegu on August 8, 1944. They could get away from Japanese troops, but 4 members of their companion were arrested and only 2 members to success to get out of Japanese. It was not simply meaning to get away from Japanese troops. Korean soldiers had to attempt to get the visions of the Japan's defeat. After Korean soldiers' escape in Daegu led to another attempts like the Pyeongyang Unit. And it was given big influence to escape of the Korean student soldiers and conscription soldiers in the others Japanese troops.
