Activities and Roles of Those Who from the Korean Independence Army in the Korean Armed Forces

ABSTRACT

This paper puts an in-depth study on the activities and roles of soldiers in the national army of the Korean Independence Army. Their activities and contribution were investigated to determine how they had been involved in the Korean Armed forces with the number of participants and their characteristics from establishing the Korean Armed Forces. This study tried to establish the relationship between the Independence Army and Korean Armed Forces. First, all those from Independence Army who participated in the Korean Armed Forces were investigated. The objects of this study were those who were trained while serving in the Independence Army and others who were identified with their liberal activities even though they were from different protesting groups. For this purpose, as much data as possible were investigated, like various types of newspapers, testament collections, memoirs, references, records of fallen soldiers of the National Cemetery, and status of burial. In addition, database information of reliable public institutions, including meritorious records, was reviewed to build as high reliability as possible. Those efforts have led to figuring out the approximate number of soldiers from the Independence Army who participated in the Korean Armed Forces. Those from the Independence Army played a crucial role and mission in the establishment and growth of the Korean Armed Forces. It is clear why it is necessary to investigate, discover, and analyze those from the Independence Army who participated in the Korean Armed Forces. This proves the identity and legitimacy of the Korean Armed Forces, which identifies its roots as the Independence Army. This study suggests that research should be continued to support a national consensus and to establish the solid identity and legitimacy of the Korean Armed Forces.
