ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study is to examine the aspects of content knowledge composition in the writing of the international undergraduate students at Korean universities. This study tries to confirm the definition of the content knowledge for writing, analyze the writing-texts of the international undergraduate students at Korean universities and compare it with those of the Korean students. The importance of writing education in Korean language education for an academic purpose is increasing with a significant rise in the number of the international undergraduate students at Korean universities. The focus of the studies on writing education in Korean language education for an academic purpose is now changing from exercising writing skills to accumulating the background knowledge for writing. This study shows that the international undergraduate students studying at Korean universities have several problems in terms of searching, collecting, and selecting the information for writing on the Internet by utilizing search engines and suggests some solutions for it. The result of this study is expected to provide information on anticipated future studies in Korean language education for an academic purpose for the international undergraduate students. Another expectation is that this study would be followed by many more notable studies on content knowledge composition in writing for the education of writing in Korean for an academic purpose.
