ABSTRACT

This thesis is aimed at interpreting Choi In-Hoon’s art-philosophical idea and the social context in his novel style by analyzing how the allegory ― which is the prototypical symbol form and the aesthetic expression mode of his novel Gu-un-mong (A Dream of Nine Clouds) ― is applied to the structure of the text. The allegory in Choi’s novel is interpreted as the mimetic reaction of aesthetic modernity about the social contradiction in an era when value collapses. This thesis focuses first on searching the nature of value-broken society and the mental structure of the period through the allegorical formality and narrative structure, and next on scanning the essential function and meaning of Choi’s fiction aesthetics trying to rescue the dead history. For this, this thesis uses the research methodology that divides the principle of the text production of the novel Gu-un-mong (A Dream of Nine Clouds) into three categories ― the allegory of the pattern field, the allegory of the psychology field and the allegory of the narration field ― and then interprets the social meaning on the basis of the structural homology among the categories. It is expected that this thesis identifies the original form of the text production and the value of the sociology of novel by reading out the function and meaning of the allegorical narration-mode developed by parody-style of the romance.
