ABSTRACT

In this article I constituted a Jungsim Suryun(正心修練) meditation program (the Right Mind Practice Program) with the different cultivation extract taken from the Confucian texts. I suggested a program through the cultivation methods dotted with several ways to confirm the methods, and then reformed it as a full-fledged meditation program. To realize my idea, in chapter 2 I summarized the Confucian cultivation in two ways of relation and observation. The way of relation in meditation has a relational and holistic characters differently contrasted with other kinds of meditation of Buddhism and Daoism and et cetera. It relates to the meaning of the Confucian respectfulness Jing(敬). Another meditative way of observation is applied to the Confucian meditation in the same way like today’s prevalent views of meditation. In chapter 3 I searched the relation of body and mind, comparing the quiet sitting(靜坐) with Jungsim Suryun meditation to confirm the inner equivalence of both. In chapter 4 I introduced the Jungsim Suryun meditation in earnest. For all 6 steps of the Suryun, Pyeongsim(easiness), Huhsim(emptiness), Jonsim(mindfulfillment), Saesim(mind-washness), Yangsim(mind-cultivation), Ansim(calmness), each of their meanings and method of progress are explained. I here attempted to realize the above ideas of relation and observation of the Confucian cultivation to the each step of meditative activity. In the last chapter 5 I carefully summed up the result of the Jungsim Suryun meditation program carried out within a certain period. To confirm and raise up the level of Confucian meditation with other ways of Buddhistic, Daoistic meditation, it really needs more systemic and simple way of meditation program.
