ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study is to see the affect of the chronically mentally disabled based on Spinoza's affect theory. This is to expose the physical and mental affection in the encountering the external object. It is because affects accompany certain external objects and they are exposed through affection. To this end, Spinoza's affect is described based on "Ethics", focusing on how the chronically mentally disabled could undergo the physical and mental affections in compliance with the affect structure. According to Spinoza's affect structure, the chronically mentally disabled were experiencing some affects through contingency, similarity, temporality, other dependency, affect imitation, the combination of the affect of love and hate and the affect of desire. This is to discover the potentia to realize the maximum ability of the chronically mentally disabled to exert their reason, and it is also challenge for both the mentally challenged people and the practitioners in the desire arising from true cognition for the potentia of the chronically mentally disabled.
