AB - The aim of this study is to examine how the pronoun it in the English dialogue in the movie Bridget Jones Dairy1 is translated into the Korean subtitles. Generally, pronouns that refer to entities in this study are presented as familiar, and most of the time pronouns are introduced in the sentence or in the previous sentence. However, this study showed that in some cases, the pronoun it was used in the sentence without being introduced previously or in the following sentence. What the pronouns refers to could only be assumed based on the context of the speaker and hearer in the film. So, this study examined the translation strategies applied in translating English pronouns into Korean subtitles where the referring element of it is presented explicitly in the sentence or implicitly in the context.
