ABSTRACT

The question of where on the timeline the event occupies is irrelevant to aspect’, which is the various methods adopted to represent the time path of the event. The Korean auxiliary verb ‘issda’ is more widely used in the grammatical meaning of the sentence than the word meaning. This paper focus on the Korean languages ‘-eo issda’ and ‘-go issda’. The Korean aspect system has been re-examined from the perspective of cognitive grammar. First of all, We review the interpretation of aspect system by cognitive grammar, and analyzes the ‘Image Schema’ of the perfective and the imperfective. Moreover, The two processes are schematized using the ‘Stage Model’. We get the ‘Image Schema’ of intention for the perfect aspect and the imperfect aspect. Then, we found the characteristics of the perfective and the imperfective through the ‘Image Schema’. We try to draw the perfect aspect ‘Image Schema’ of the ‘-eo issda’ and ‘-go issda2’ through the ‘Stage Model’. We also try to draw the imperfect aspect ‘Image Schema’ of the ‘-go issda1’. Based on ‘the movement continues’, ‘the action continues over and over’, ‘time repetition continues’ etc., different types classify the progress aspect and show their respective ‘Image Schema’. It's worth mentioning that for foreigners learning Korean, understanding grammar should not be limited to form and usage. We should understand Korean grammar on the cognitive level. In this way, we can learn Korean effectively and improve the accuracy of language use.
