ABSTRACT

Ariranggogae is a representative work of the Joseon play and Towolhoe in the 1920s. Due to the appearance of Japanese rulers, the keynote of this work is based on the sharp contrast between the ruling and the dominant. The Japanese landlord was the cause of the appearance of the desolate Joseon rural area, and was the main cause of the tragedy of the wealthy man who left the land. Therefore, the appearance of such Japanese landlords expands the understanding of what should be the subject of criticism in the reality of Joseon in the 1920s. In the characteristics of Ariranggogae, the narrative structure, the figure of people, the opposing composition, the background music, and the dramatic chastity of the film Arirang are projected in high concentration. The success factors that contributed to the formation of a broad consensus that were utilized in the film Arirang were transformed into elements of the play. As a result, Ariranggogae could be completed. The ultimate purpose of this study is to examine the similarity and influence of these two works.
