AB - This paper is an attempt to explicate the meaning and basis of human dignity through the historical overview of the interrelation between human rights and dignity, and further, to consider the question whether the concept of human dignity can be appliable also to new human species modified by technology or personified objects like AI, which are to be conceptualized into the posthuman, from the philosophical perspective. In this connection, the paper addresses the following two theses: first, has the humans dignity? If so, what does it mean to have dignity and what is its basis? Second, if something can meet the conditions of dignity, can also the posthuman as artificially enhanced human beings or personified objects with artificial intelligence have dignity?
