ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study is to propose a Chinese pronunciation education plan using an intelligent tutoring system (ITS), one of the educational aids, focusing on AI-based voice recognition technology. The characteristics of Chinese pronunciation education of “Hello Chinese”, an Chinese education platform selected in this paper, are as follows. First, it is possible to check the pronunciation of Chinese immediately and accurately. Second, it is possible to practice speaking in the form of role play. Third, it provides confirmation of inaccurate pronunciation and accuracy of learners' pronunciation as scores. However, as a limitation of AI-based pronunciation education, first, occasional errors appear in tone changes. Second, it is difficult to trust the accuracy of learners' errors. Third, it cannot tell you how to correct learners' errors. Despite these limitations, ITS-based Chinese education still cannot ignore the advantages of narrowing the learning gap for learners and providing equal learning opportunities, so it is hoped that various AI-based education platforms will be developed in the Chinese education field in the future and related research will increase.
