ABSTRACT

This study discusses Sequence of Tense in Korean, Japanese, English and Polish and argues that language without Sequence of Tense invovles non-deictic PAST tense and its correlation on morphological selection of temporal connectives. Crosslinguistic investigation is provided in this respect to show that Korean PAST morpheme has to be interpreted as Perfect. The main contribution of this paper is to provide a uniform analysis on the selectional properteis of temporal connectives in Korean and Japanese based on this non-deictic property of temporal morphemes.
