ABSTRACT

This article aims to systematically elucidate the correlation between being and emotion from metaphysical perspective, by analyzing the theories of mood in Heidegger’s early and later thoughts. Clarifying how prevailing moods are involved in the completion of human being and they function as critical constituents for the manifestation of the most fundamental truth of being and the authentic mode of being of Dasein, it concentrates on illuminating the ontological status and implications of moods. In line with this task, the article attempts to deepen and expand the understanding of the theories of the ontological moods of both sides by contrasting the correlation between being and mood in Heidegger’s philosophy with the Buddhistic thought of emptiness and emotion of mercy. This attempt has it as its goal, above all, to explicitly elucidate ethical and practical aspects of emotions, which have been relatively neglected in Heideggerian approach insisting on ontological carring out the question of being.
