ABSTRACT

Ethical discussions regarding digital media platforms have thus far been addressed as separate topics, such as digital platforms, social media, and AI ethics. However, with the contemporary mediatization of digital media platforms, which function as a kind of infrastructural environment, there is a need for ethical discourse that considers these platforms from an integrated perspective. Digital media platforms not only reflect diverse values and relationships, but also have the ability to directly regulate the behaviors of relevant actors, while exerting a significant influence on the formation of public agendas. Consequently, the social implications and responsibilities of platforms need to be addressed more prominently. Furthermore, digital media platforms are the most prevalent means through which everyday encounters with ethical concerns related to artificial intelligence technologies occur. Therefore, ethical considerations of AI should be discussed in relation to digital media platforms. Consequently, ethical discourse on digital media platforms should encompass a broader perspective of ethics that addresses the evolving relationship between technology and humans in the digital age, the transformations in everyday life, and the rethinking of fundamental values and concepts. To achieve this, a broad perspective of digital ethics is necessary. From this viewpoint, ethical discourse on digital media platforms involves ethical evaluations of new technologies, including algorithms, the rethinking of fundamental values and concepts in human society, and recommendations for governance that promote and embody ethical values.
