AB - This study examines the association between vocational training participation during the preceding survey interval and subsequent employment status and labor market transitions, using individual-level data from Waves 20–27 of the Korean Labor and Income Panel Study. The data were reorganized into a person-wave panel, and the analysis combined two-way fixed effects models with transition models stratified by prior employment status. The results show that lagged vocational training participation is positively associated with current employment. It is also associated with a higher likelihood of transition from non-employment to employment and a lower likelihood of transition from employment to non-employment. Differences across the pre-, during-, and post-COVID-19 periods were observed only in some fixed-effects specifications and were not consistently supported by the transition models. Therefore, the findings should be interpreted as empirical associations identified through panel fixed-effects and transition analyses rather than as definitive causal effects. This study contributes to the literature by assessing vocational training outcomes from the dual perspective of re-employment and employment retention rather than relying solely on a static measure of employment status.
