ABSTRACT

Densification and grain growth have been investigated in 5 wt% U3O8 seeded UO2 and compared with those ofthe comon UO 2 pellet. UO2 compacts and U3O8 seeded UO2 compacts were sintered at 1300~1700oC for 0 h to 4 h.respectively. The seed pellet has a slightly lower density during the intermediate sintering stage. However, the diferenceof density between two pellets decreases to about 0.5 %TD with increasing the sintering temperature. The grain size of thetwo pellets is similar until 1600oC but that of the seeded pelet rapidly increases with increasing the sintering temperature.Key words Nuclear fuel, Uranium dioxide, Grain growth, SedU3O8 ...
