ABSTRACT
This study conducted a comparison analysis of the differences by scope between juveniledelinquents, under sentence of juvenile protective disposition, and normal middle․high schoolboys’ self-esteem and sociality; it aims to search for the correctional policy to prevent juveniledelinquency. I conducted a survey, as a sampling target, of students (84) at DaedeokJuvenile Reformatory, located in Daejeon-si, Korea, and the normal middle․high school boys(230). The results of analysis showed that in the analysis of self-esteem difference, juvenile delinquents were found high in the global self-esteem and school-academic self-esteem, butthe normal adolescents were found high only in the scope of family-parents self-esteem. Inleadership, a subordinate scope of sociality, juvenile delinquents showed the high result, andin independence and cooperativity, normal adolescents were found high. In conclusion, as thedistinction between self-esteem and sociality is different by scope, depending on theindividual’s characteristic and environment, it suggests that the correctional policy throughthe customized plan is effective at preventing delinquency.

/ This study considers as juvenile delinquents teenagers who is sentenced to the juvenile protective disposition of no. 8, 9 and 10, under the Juvenile Act. Protective disposition is to be sentenced, as a result of trial, when judged government should protect the juvenile positively for the improvement of his environment. Protective disposition is divided from no. 1 to no. 10; sending juvenile offender to a probation office goes from no. 2 to no. 5;sending him to a reformatory falls from no. 8 to no. 10. Unlike the criminal punishment, protective disposition doesn’t leave criminal records. The kinds of protective disposition are:no. 1(protection by a guardian or trust of care and custody to a person possible to protect the juvenile on behalf of a guardian); no.2(order to attend lectures of 100 hours); no.3(social service order of 200 hours); no.4(short-term probation for a year); no. 5 (long-term probation for 2 years); no. 6(trust of care and custody to a child welfare institution or other juvenile institutions for 6 months, under Child Welfare Act); no. 7(trust to a hospital, a sanatorium or a juvenile medical institution for 6months, under Treatment of Protected Juvenile Act); no. 8(sending to a reformatory for a month); no. 9(short-term sending to a reformatory for 6months); and no. 10(long-term sending to a reformatory for 2 years)
