ABSTRACT

This study aims to develop and implement an artificial intelligence (AI) education program to cultivate fundamental competencies in software (SW) and AI among elementary school students, and to enhance their understanding and familiarity with AI. The program was designed to systematically cover the learning process from basic AI concepts to advanced applications, integrating unplugged activities and physical computing practices tailored to the students’ level and interests. Through this approach, students effectively developed computational thinking skills, and the application of the program led to significant improvements in their understanding and familiarity with AI, as well as in their creative thinking and problem-solving abilities. Surveys of elementary school teachers also indicated that the program contributed to students’ improved understanding of AI and was highly valued as an educational resource. This study highlights the necessity of creating an educational environment where students can engage with SW and AI from an early age and where teachers can provide structured and effective instruction.
