ABSTRACT

This study investigates the effects of applying an Interactive Automatic Assessment System (IAAS) in text-based programming education for elementary school students and aims to improve the system. The results showed that the IAAS group exhibited a statistically improvement in computational thinking compared to the control group (t=2.146, p=.038). Furthermore, an analysis of computational thinking improvement across different learning levels (high, middle, and low) revealed that the experimental group demonstrated improvement in all three subgroups (p<.05). In contrast, the control group showed significant improvement only in the middle-level subgroup (p=.003), thereby confirming the potential of IAAS for individualized learning based on learning levels. Issues identified during the study's application, such as multi-cell configurations and limited recommendation features, were addressed by implementing single-cell integration and level-specific problem recommendation functions. The validity of these improvements was secured through expert validation (N=8, I−CVI≥0.78). This study is significant for confirming the effectiveness and individualization potential of IAAS in elementary text-based programming education, as well as for improving the system from a user-centered perspective.
