ABSTRACT

This study aims to identify the success factors at each stage of the college experience. For the purposes of this study, the college experience has been divided into three stages: pre-engagement, active engagement and post-engagement. A survey was conducted among college students and 119 responses were used in the empirical analysis. The findings indicate that a growth mindset and social connectedness are critical during the pre-engagement phase. During the active engagement phase, thriving in college emerges as a central factor. Notably, thriving in college significantly predicts major satisfaction in the post-engagement phase. Understanding the temporal relationships among these factors offers valuable insights into designing effective intervention programs. The purpose of such programs is to enhance students’ satisfaction with their chosen major by improving the overall college experience.
