ABSTRACT

In this study, we propose an efficient PDU session management for on-demand network slicing in 5G networks to support the PDU session continuity of a specific service. The main idea is to keep establishing an Always-on PDU session for a specific service to provide service continuity. If a slice deregistration inactivity timer associated with an On-demand S-NSSAI is running in a UE and 5G network and an Always-on PDU session needs to be established for a delay sensitive service, the proposed scheme reduces the delay for the delay sensitive service by stopping the slice deregistration inactivity timer associated with the On-demand S-NSSAI and promptly establishing the Always-on PDU session. Through simulation, we show that the proposed session management scheme minimizes the service delay of delay sensitive applications and unnecessary signaling overhead compared to existing 3GPP operations.
