ABSTRACT

This study examines how generative AI use affects Korean adolescents' peer relationship satisfaction through self-esteem, analyzing 2025 Korea Media Panel Survey data (N=329, aged 13-19) via PROCESS Macro (Model 4). Controlling for key covariates, generative AI users reported significantly higher self-esteem and peer satisfaction than non-users. While the direct effect was marginally significant at α = .10 (b = 0.2502, p = .0535), self-esteem partially mediated the relationship (indirect effect = 0.0456, Boot 95% CI [0.0055, 0.1008], Boot 90% CI [0.0132, 0.0915]). These findings demonstrate the socio-psychological benefits of youth digital practice, advocating a policy shift toward digital empowerment.
