AB - 美化語は、日本語と韓國語の各敬語の領域の中で形態的差異が最も大きなものであり、日本語において特徵的に發達している敬語の一種である。從來、美化語に關しては素材敬語か對者敬語かの議論が行われてきたが、その兩方の機能を倂せ持つものと筆者は判斷する。美化表現は、主に美化語によって表現されるものであるが、本稿では美化語を形態的に下位分類し、それぞれをまとめて提示した。美化語は特定語形を持つものと成分添加によるものとの体系を有している。特定語形においても、單語の轉換によるもの、接辭の添加による特定語形、接辭によって意味の轉換が發生する美化語などがあるが、これらは接辭が添加された形で辭典類の見出語として揭載されるほど一語化している。成分添加による美化語はそのほとんどが接頭辭「お」によって實現されるという特徵を有する。それは、美化語全体を通して女性によってそれが一般に用いられるということと深く關わっている。ただし、同類のものであっても言語習慣によって「お」が添加できない場合もあれば、「お」が添加されて返ってマイナス効果をねらう場合もある。また、「お」の有無によって全く別の意味をなすものが存在するなど、美化語にも各種の形態と機能があることが分かる。
