AB - 최근에 단어의 형태적 특성을 통사부문으로까지 확대시켜 연구하는 확산형태론이란 연구 분야가 각광을 받고 있다. 대표적인 연구로 西山(2000)의 연구를 들 수 있다.西山(2000)은 자타형태소, 예를 들면, /s/와 /r/가 단순히 어휘부문에 등록되어 있는 것이 아니라, 동적이고 파생적인 형태부문에서 얻어지며, 그 귀결로써 형태부문은 문법모델 중에서 통사부문의 이후에 위치한다는 주장을 펼쳤다. 본 논문에서는 西山(2000)의 이 주장은 일본인 화자들의 의식에 자타동사가 이미 내재되어 있다는 사실에서 타당하지 않음을 주장한다. 또한 자동사보다는 오히려 자발동사, 중간가능동사, 결과자동사들이 형태부문이 통사부문 이후에 위치하는 결정적인 증거가 될 수 있음을 밝힌다.
