ABSTRACT

The purpose of this paper is to find the main reason and pattern of schizophrenia, to explore the proper treatment of schizophrenia, and to develop the method of Christian counseling. The beginning of schizophrenia is typically during adolescence or early adulthood. Some people recover very quickly from schizophrenia, whereas others deteriorate progressively after the initial onset of symptoms. The disorder was originally defined by Emil Kraepelin, who emphasized the progressive course of the disorder. Eugen Bleuler coined the term schizophrenia, proposing that disturbances in speech and emotion are the fundamental symptoms of the disorder. The negative symptoms of this disease have given increased emphasis in DSM-IV. The manual requires evidence of a decline in the person’s social or occupational functioning, as well as the presence of disturbed behavior over a continuous period of at least six months. The DSM-IV recognizes many subtypes of schizophrenia, such as disorganized, catatonic, and paranoid types, that are based on prominent symptoms. The writer presented an evangelical theory, ‘agape counseling’which was a Christian counseling as an alternative to assist schizophrenia patient.
