ABSTRACT

In the situation of aged society, Christian churches need to execute pastoral counseling for the aged and their families. However, going beyond quantitative and material approaches to elderly problems, the church should be able to present new elderly counseling programs and pastoral visions. It is because aging is one of the most important issues not only to the country and society but also to Korean Churches and it should be solved with active alternatives. The growing population of adults over the age of 65 continues to outstrip our provision of services. Pastoral theology for the aged approach in the field of counseling and gain strength in various field. But there in no official report this applied in elderly counseling. This thesis endeavored to apply Pastoral theology for the aged approach to the elderly. Pastoral elderly program operators should carry out ministry in the ways of forming friendliness with elders, understanding their mind, and embracing them. Moreover, elders should be treated with knowledge and insight, and respected as whole persons rather than as beneficiaries of education or welfare. In this way, the churches should imbue elders with life and power so that they can lead their own life in a new spirit as creative and organic contributors.
