ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study is to investigate the conceptual basis of intuition in order to extend the concept of intuition in Christian counseling scope. Intuition is a phenomenon which appears in the process of cognizing objects consequentially. Intuition contains diverse conceptual factors in the enlarged scope of episteme. However, intuition serves as a way to cognize the unconsciousness. Thus, it is necessary to illuminate intuition from the perspective of Christian counseling. The result of this study is as follows. First, the understanding of intuition in psychology has been limited to spontaneous thoughts or the concept of unconsciousness. Second, intuition can be presented as the process of perception in terms of philosophy, the perception of sensory information in terms of psychology, and the spirituality to recognize and understand God in terms of theology. Third, the origin of intuition can be expanded to the concept of Christian spirituality from human’s unconsciousness. Finally, the necessity of clarifying the definition of intuition is presented since the definition of intuition includes psychological, social as well as spiritual concepts. Spiritual source is added to the range of intuition through the study of unconsciousness and revelation. Therefore, this study prepares grounds to expand the concept of intuition in Christianity and to integrate the concept of Christian revelation and psychological intuition.
