ABSTRACT

The purpose of this academic research is to investigate ‘agape leadership’ as a new pattern of Christian leadership. In the main stream of authoritarian leadership, this kind of leadership can raise various problems. Authoritarian leadership which is different from authoritative leadership is generally apt to compel members to obey and sacrifice to authoritarian leader. The researcher presents ‘agape leader’ as a new pattern’s Christian leadership. ‘Agape leadership’ is totally different from authoritarian leadership. The characteristics of this type of leadership are dedicative, sacrificial and altruistic. The writer presents three types of leaders: autocratic, servant and agape leader. Through this academic paper the writer deals with the following issues: first, modern leadership theories of Business Administration and the theory of pastoral leadership. secondly, the concept of agape leadership. third, the differences between authoritarian leadership and agape leadership. fourthly, the practical methods of agape leadership. fifth, agape leadership as a new alternative of leadership crisis among Korean churches, and so forth. The originality of this study is to introduce the issue of ‘agape leadership’ as an alternative to authoritarian leadership. The study method of this research is mainly to study reference books and articles related the issue of leadership.
