ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study is to verifying the mediating effects of self-esteem in the correlation between the religious disposition and career decision level of Christian university students. The subjects of study were 247 university students with the Christian faith and survey research was conducted by using religious disposition scale, self-esteem scale and career decision level scale. The data analysis was performed by using SPSS 18.0. The study results are as follow. First, it showed negative correlation between the extrinsic religious disposition and self-esteem of Christian university students, and intrinsic religious disposition showed positive correlation. Second, self-esteem had partial mediating effects in the correlation between extrinsic religious disposition and career decision level of Christian university students. Namely, extrinsic religious disposition also had indirect effects through self-esteem while having direct effects on career decision level. On the other hand, self-esteem was found to have complete mediating effects in the correlation between intrinsic religious disposition and career decision level. Although intrinsic religious disposition did not have statistically direct effects on career decision level, it had indirect effects through self-esteem. Accordingly, it discussed the need to develop a Christian counselling intervention strategy for reducing extrinsic religious disposition and enhancing self-esteem through intrinsic religious disposition to improve the career decision level of Christian university students.
