ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study is to prove the effectiveness of Christian counseling started to help reduce psychological distress in children with ADHD and function in an adaptive lifestyle with the appeal of mothers who suffer from conflicts caused by their children’s problem behaviors. And to verify whether the counseling method intervening to reduce the social withdrawal and aggressive behavior of children with ADHD has an effect. Art therapy was conducted on children with ADHD as a strategic method for concrete realization, and it was combined with art counseling as an attempt of practical integration, utilizing Christian counseling resources. What impact it had on the children with ADHD would be discussed. The research method was constructed with single-case experimental design, ABA model as a method for emphasizing the clinical significance and proving the effect of a therapeutic intervention. First, Children with ADHD cultivated positive emotions as they experienced the sufficient acceptance and purification of their emotions through art therapy. Second, As the characteristic symptoms of children with ADHD, social withdrawal and aggressive behavior decreased. Third, Mothers expanded the range of the level of understanding of their children through parent education and counseling. And Mothers’ relationships with their children resulted in a virtuous circle. As a result, the psychological conflict between the mother and the children was resolved.
