ABSTRACT

The purpose of this research is to provide Biblical perspectives on marriage crisis counseling by studying Biblical value of helping spouse. The research explores the marriage experiences of two wives in their early sixties, through the analysis of their counselling records and observations. Following are three  questions that the research mainly  focuses on. First, how have their marriages been? Second, what  were the motives that the wives had during the marriage? Lastly, how did recovering Biblical identity as ‘strong helper’ helped them become more mature wives? The method of the research is quantitative case study. The research studies the Biblical viewpoint of ‘strong helping spouse’ and advanced research on marriage. It analyzes the counseling records and observations of their attitudes during the counseling process to examine the motives that wives had in their marriage. Lastly, the research examines how recovering identity as ‘strong helping spouse’ helped them overcome marriage crisis. The conclusion of the research is that counseling emphasizing the recovery of the identity as ‘strong helper’ can help wives to overcome marriage crisis. It also shows that counseling can give them another chance to become more mature spouses. The wives in the research are in process of growing as the mature spouses due to the counseling.
