ABSTRACT

Christian Counseling is a way to help people who struggle with the problems in their lives based on Biblical views on human being, not just for improving functions but for 'soul-caring'. Christian Counseling therefore needs more holistic system to be built in order to faithfully contribute to soul-caring. Recognizing the necessity for taking note of continuity in Christian history, this paper aims to identify the substances which can be derived from resources for soul-caring of Puritans who take unique position in Christian history. As a methodology, this paper identifies the necessity and significance of reconnecting soul-caring traditions through utilizing Puritan resources. Next, through researches on Puritan literature, it finds the difference to secular studies focused on abnormal psychology in the fact that it tried to approach the healing after identifying the reason centering on the three entities of God, human and Satan. After finding that Puritan soul-caring were faceted with Christ-centeredness, holism, wisdom and love, the paper, based on them, proposes Christian counseling process model, which encompasses reasoning and diagnosing structure particular to Christian counseling, recovery of Christ-centeredness, research on keeping mind, and application of caring centered in family for the recovery of healing principle. Finally, the paper claims that this study has significance as research on Puritan literature for groundwork of Biblical system construction focused on soul-caring.
