ABSTRACT

Couples may be vulnerable to depression if they are experiencing conflicts and crises in marital relationships and between parents and children. In this situation, the Christian's the image of God can affect and be affected at the same time in their lives. This study was conducted to confirm how child-rearing stress and marital conflict resolution strategies affect the depression of parents raising underage children through God’s image. To this end, data were collected from 212 parents raising underage children, and the data were analyzed through descriptive statistics analysis and structural model verification. The main research results are as follows. First, it was confirmed that child-rearing stress had a direct negative effect on depression. Second, it was confirmed that the marital conflict resolution strategy had a direct and positive effect on depression. Third, it was confirmed that God’s image had a direct and positive effect on depression. Fourth, it was found that child-rearing stress indirectly negatively affects depression through God’s image. Fifth, it was found that the rational marital conflict resolution strategy indirectly had a positive effect on depression through God’s image. Based on this, this study proposed the need to provide Christian counseling and receptive care of the church community to help clients experiencing depression to form and restore biblical God’s image.
