ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study is to examine the case conceptualization of biblical counseling. Case conceptualization is the process of establishing goals and strategies by analyzing the client’s information in counseling and is composed of structures and hypotheses. In terms of structure, the Sperry & Sperry model is widely used as the definition of case conceptualization as it is and in terms of hypotheses, major elements for case conceptualization have been proposed in various counseling theory approaches. In Christian counseling, it has been emphasized that the biblical worldview, perspective on human beings and ‘change model’are reflected. Len Sperry proposed a counseling model that integrates pastoral counseling and spiritual direction and showed the possibility that reflects the spiritual dimension and evaluates spiritual elements in an integrated way. Therefore, the model can be used for biblical counseling case conceptualization. In particular, it was suggested to review the existing case conceptualization factors by prioritizing the authority of the Bible as well as the biblical perspective on human beings and change model in the analysis of Predisposition and Perpetuants. What is important is the perspective of the counselor with this spiritual awareness. This study is meaningful in that it provides insight into biblical counseling and education by examining the applicability of case conceptualization of biblical counseling centering on the Sperry’s model.
