ABSTRACT

This study analysed the formational process of multicultural society in Singapore that have shared similar characteristics in their culture and society, and suggested how such a multicultural policy can be applied to Korea. The multicultural policies in Singapore have been constructed of domestic residents, foreign workers, and foreign talents. And These have been applied different perspectives as follows; ① Definding as the ‘government-driven and hardly formal’ multicultural model to domestic residents, ② Assessing the assimilation model to foreign talents, and ③ Putting into the difference exclusionary model to foreign workers. The facing subject of multicultural policies in Singapore will be to replace ‘government-driven and hardly formal’ multiculturalism with ‘selfregulating’ multicultrualism based on a ‘genuine’ tolerance.
