ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study is to analyze the community wellbeing indices of international organizations and select countries to provide guidelines for developing a community wellbeing index in Korea. In detail, the study examined the indices of the OECD, UN, UNESCO, EU, WHO and select cases in the United States, Canada, Australia, United Kingdom, and Japan. We found that while these indicators served a wide variety of purposes, they were not comprehensive and had critical limits to generalized application. As such, an important premise of this study is that there are critical limits to applying existing community wellbeing indices to Korea. This paper presents a set of community wellbeing indicators for Korea based on a matrix evaluation framework of relevance and data availability.
