ABSTRACT

This reports a study of medical consumers' co-operatives in Ansung and Wonjufrom interactional perspective of community sociology. The authors analyze theemergence and institutionalization of the two medical cooperatives and describe thedifferences of organizational characteristics and the mode of interactions withindividuals and other co-operatives in the community. Interactional theory focuses ondynamics of participants' interactions in a variety of fields rather than communitystructure and actors. Since the interactional process is not a static structure but achanging process, the emergence and institutionalization of the community are pivotal. Laville(2009)'s model is adopted to analyze the emergence and institutionalization ofthe two co-operatives in the context of social economy. According to Laville's model, social support network, social entrepreneurship, project partnerships and resourcesharing play an important role in emergence and institutionalization. The analysisresults show that the difference in the emergence and institutionalization leads tomanagement orientations and practices.
