ABSTRACT

It is important for city and county to develop strategy based on the dimension of nation’s growth. Several supporting programs have been under progress by local government or nuclear power generation companies at Uljin area. The sustainability of Uljin area is obtained good evaluation because it has rich culture and tourism resource as well as ocean resource. However, the population has declined continuously and aging society is coming like other rural areas. It is necessary to develop the strategy for activating regional economy in order to overcome economic crisis because of the shut down of nuclear power generation. This study employs SWOT/AHP analysis to develop strategy for Uljin area. The SWOT matrix was constructed by reflecting experts’ opinions and AHP analysis is performed to find relative importances by using pairwise comparisons among factors. Then, the development strategy for Uljin area is proposed based on the results of SWOT/AHP analysis. This study emphasizes on SO strategy that gives high priority to the construction of infrastructure for ocean industry and the improvement of transportation network such as railroads and express ways for the future regional growth.
