AB - This study explores the essence and transformation of the Swedish model through the autoethnographic reflections of a comparative political scientist who spent thirty-eight years in Sweden as a student and professor. By examining the institutional framework that facilitated an immigrant scholar's academic journey ―spanning from initial language training and intensive thesis writing to a postdoctoral fellowship―this paper uncovers the core values embedded in the Swedish system. In Sweden, education serves as an exceptionally efficient welfare policy and a ladder of opportunity, characterized by comprehensive step-by-step student support and egalitarian investment in human capital. Furthermore, the nation’s low corruption rates and institutionalized social compromise are explained through the critical elements of the Tit-for-Tat theory, illustrating that deep-seated social trust remains the resilient structural foundation for navigating contemporary welfare crises.
