Purpose : The aim of this study is to identify the key performance index(KPI) to be used in the nursing departments of the military hospitals using the Balanced Scorecard(BSC) by Kaplan and Norton(1992). Methods : Four questionnaires were developed and used. A convenience sample of 56 nursing officers with more than 12 years of working experience were selected from the military hospitals across the country. They were requested to complete the four questionnaires over a period of 4 months. Results : The mission and vision for the nursing departments were created. Twenty one practical strategies and 50 KPIs were identified, and the 50 KPIs which were classified into the 4 perspectives of the BSC, 6 into the financial part, 18 into the customer part, 14 into the internal business process part and 12 into the studying and growth part, respectively. Conclusion : The results of this study are expected to serve as indicators of nursing practical outcomes in the nursing departments, and to contribute to developing the vision and mission of the military hospitals.

Purpose : This study was conducted to evaluate the level of spiritual combat power and analyse the difference in the level of the generic characteristics. Methods : The tool for this study was accomplished by a remodified version of ‘The Spiritual Combat Power Assessment Tool’ developed by the National Defense University. Using the modified tool, the data were collected from all cadets(n=286) at the AFNA in 2011. For data analysis, descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way ANOVA, and reliability analysis were used most frequently using SPSS 12.0. Results : The mean score of the subcomponents of the spiritual combat power components(Belief, discipline, morale, Solidarity) range between 3.07 and 4.21 out of 5. The results from the cadets were mostly positive, but each component showed significantly difference. The current study also confirmed the significant correlations between each component and its subcomponents. Conclusion : In order to improve the level of the spiritual combat power of cadets, the study proposed the five practical methods. This study also has a great significance in the aspect of establishing a theoretical foundation related the cadets’ spiritual combat power for the future studies.

Purpose : The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of music therapy on pain and mood states of patients with complex regional pain syndrome(CRPS). Methods : The study was done with a nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design. The data were collected from 55 patients, 30 and 25 in the experimental and the control group respectively, who were admitted to a military hospital, in Gyeonggi province from January 28 to October 22 of 2011. While the control group had not received any intervention, 30∼40 minutes of music therapy was given to the experimental group three times a week, six times in total, using an MP3 player with headphones. Results : The results were as follows : 1. The first hypothesis, "the experimental group who received music therapy would have a lower mean neuropathic pain score (NPS) than the other one who did not receive music therapy" was rejected (t=1.174, p>.05) 2. The second hypothesis, "the experimental group would have a lower total mood disturbance score (TMD) than the other" was also rejected(t=1,419, p>.05). Conclusion : In this study, preferred music therapy didn't make significant differences in mean neuropathic pain and total mood disturbance. But, these results demonstrated that music therapy to CRPS was effective in decreasing unpleasant sensation and tension, increasing vigor. Based on the results of this study, music therapy can be utilized as a effective nursing of intervention for the CRPS. Future studies need to be done with a larger number of subjects in both the experimental and the control groups.
