ABSTRACT

Purpose : This research was a descriptive study to provide a guidance for developing the integrated curriculum of Armed Force Nursing Academy by revising the philosophy, objectives and aims of nursing education and construction of the conceptual framework of curriculum. Methods : We reviewed literature and consulted with an expert on the integrated curriculum. And also there was a workshop with nursing faculty members working at the AFNA. Result : The philosophy of nursing education reflected the social changes, the national demands and the future oriented values and beliefs of nursing faculty. The objectives of nursing education described 'respect for human's life and dignity', 'advocacy', 'scientific knowledge', 'professional performance ability', 'therapeutic relationship' and 'facilitation of well-being' to reflect the characteristics of nursing education. And it included 'readiness' to emphasize the special objectives of our school education. The aims of nursing education included 'holistic care', 'understanding of military environment', 'resolution of health problem', 'cooperative therapeutic relationship', 'professional nursing skill', 'maintaining the readiness', 'leadership', 'ability of scientific problem resolution', 'professional values' and 'research'. The conceptual framework was built with 7 learning concepts and 3 new graduates' expected roles. The final conceptual framework was completed by presenting the educational concepts on the horizontal and vertical axes according to timing and learning priority. Conclusion : The outcome of this research will be utilized as a fundamental data for the settlement of the integrated curriculum of Armed Forces Nursing Academy.
