ABSTRACT

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the experience of soldiers who were discharged in military hospitals and the need of the military hospital's discharge care. Method: Data were collected through focus group interviews with 3 groups (7 soldiers and 2 officers), and were analyzed by the analytic method of Krueger and Casey(2000). Results: Seven categories of discharge experience and content of discharge care in military hospital were identified. They included ambivalence to discharge, effort for the military personnel, perception of Through this result, it was found that content of discharge care were constructed of trust between medical staffs and soldiers, advanced education about discharge protocol, continuous education about planned care process, appropriate discharge management for military personnel, and discharged soldier's management education for unit officers. Conclusion: Discharged soldiers and unit officers want to have discharge care in military hospitals. Considering the results of our analysis, a discharge management program should be carefully developed as a more effective way to help discharged soldiers.
