ABSTRACT

Purpose: A descriptive study was conducted to investigate nursing officers' nursing professional values, job satisfaction, and nursing performance. Methods: The data were collected from July 30 to August 10, 2007 using a structured questionnaire and analyzed with frequency, percentage, means, standard deviation, t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe's test and Pearson's correlation coeffient in SPSS 12.0 window program. Results: The mean score of nursing professional values was 3.37(±.44). 'Professionalism of nursing' ranked the highest score with 3.56(±.52) and 'social awareness' was the lowest score with 3.08(±.56). The mean score of job satisfaction and nursing performance were 3.16(±.35) and 3.74(±.40) respectively. Nursing professional values were significantly different according to age, marital status, gender, education level, position, rank, service year, and type of service. The score of nursing professional values had a significant correlation with the score of job satisfaction (r=.564, p<.001), and the one of nursing performance(r=.463, p<.001). Conclusion: The results of this study suggest a continuous study to find the related factors which affect nursing professional values. An educational program to promote nursing officers' professional values should be developed.
