ABSTRACT

About a New Direction of Oral Literature Education in the University —Focused on the Example of ‘Myth Contents Lecture’ Shin, Dong-Hun The theme of this essay is the education of literature in the university. What should be the purpose of literature education? I think students should become specialists of literature and serve as specialists in real society. There are various ways of achieving this purpose. One way is to incorporate ‘cultural contents’ in literature education. I have given several lectures that have related cultural contents to works of literature. In this essay I introduce an example of ‘myth contents lecture' performed during the 2th semester of 2006. The theme of the lecture is associating cultural contents with Korean myths. As a result, I realized that the content planning lecture is a promising teaching methodology of literature education, especially regarding classical oral literature. Students showed a lot of interest and participated eagerly in the lecture which reflected in the quality of their work. I wish they would become specialists of Korean literature who play important roles in society. It requires further research to determine whether this methodology is effective in literature lectures to cultural contents.
