ABSTRACT

Heat exposure risks in industrial workplaces are increasing due to global warming and urban heat island effects. Enclosed or poorly ventilated environments are particularly vulnerable to heat-related illnesses. This study proposes an IoT-based indoor environmental sensing and HVAC control system to mitigate heat stress in indoor workplaces. The system was validated in manufacturing facilities in Korea and a logistics center in Japan. Apparent temperature and WBGT were calculated using IoT sensor data to detect heat risk levels and automatically control air-conditioning systems. The proposed approach effectively reduces heat-related health risks while improving energy efficiency.
