ABSTRACT

In order to cope with crime, society's overall interest and laws and institutions are needed to support it. Despite the increased social interest as elder abuse increases, criminal policies to cope with this seem insignificant. In order to effectively respond to elder abuse, all laws and policies must be implemented from the perspective of the elderly in consideration of the specificity of the elderly. At least it needs to be supplemented to the level of criminal policy responding to child abuse, and practical countermeasures should be sought by combining empirical studies such as statistics other than normative research to clarify structural problems and specific causes. Measures are needed to protect victims, such as improving the reporting process of elderly abuse victims. For example, it is necessary to develop and introduce programs suitable for local circumstances to support investigative and autonomous police to play a role in the community and home, such as preventing elder abuse. In addition, in addition to countermeasures against abuse such as facilities at home, related systems such as blocking the association with other crimes should also be implemented. It is necessary to establish a system that can be of practical help by referring to foreign elderly abuse response cases, such as monitoring victims by designating senior abuse officers at the frontline police station, and establishing detailed criminal policies suitable for the Korean situation.
