The study on the aspect of American Mass Culture Revealed in the Short Stories in Liberation Period

ABSTRACT

This study searches the phase of American culture and capital, which includes "Mr Bang", Chae Man-Sik, "Haebang Jeonhu(Before and after Liberation)", Lee Tae-Joon, "Yanggwazagap(Pack of Western-style cakes)", Yeum Sang-Seop. These novels are suitable for study because those are not only the basis of understanding the stream of Korean literature but also demonstrate the system and situation the colonized Korea. In addition, These novels are suitable for study because those express the chaotic appearance of people swept away by the stream of thought and culture by America, and neocolonial society which results in American rule. In the meantime, these novels expose the historical social viewpoint, which is in connection with general rule by American imperialism ; society, politics and culture. Besides, this study describes actual problems about neocolonial identity in Korea. Accordingly, this study examines the phase of influx of American culture, and searches the tendency of post-colony came out in short stories. Moreover, This study aims to examine the literary position and result that the neocolonial tendency of "Mr Bang", Chae Man-Sik, "Haebang Jeonhu(Before and after Liberation)", Lee Tae-Joon, "Yanggwazagap(Pack of Western-style cakes)", Yeum Sang-Seop, are placed in the history of Korean modern literature
