Methods for assessing the writing ability of middle school students

ABSTRACT

This paper aims at suggesting the computer- and corpus-based methods for assessing writing ability of middle school students. For the purpose of this survey, I executed: 1) collecting middle school student's writing materials. 2) parsing those materials on the basis of 21 Sejong Project tagset. 3) analysing parsed corpus for the grammatical properties. This paper suggest only the large-scale parameters for assessing writing ability, and the rest, i.e. every small categorial parameters are remained for later. To sum up, this paper suggests parameters as: 1) grammatical morpheme ratio 2) lexemes per sentence 3) nouns per predicate 4) nouns per final ending
