ABSTRACT

This study sets Ji-Won Park's the Epitaph, the Grave of Mr. Park, Hongmungwan Jeongja, Grandson and Nephew as the target for analyzing. The previous independent studies on this topic were partly about vocabulary or a modification process. Since the work dealt with the various deceased of different times, the internal study of the individual works is justified. This study is mainly focused on paragraph analysis, its components, structure, and the life of the deceased. Firstly, the work is composed of the family tree-the main purpose of writing-life-death. And it can be characterized by its parallel structure. In particular, the purpose of writing divides his family tree and lifetime in the parallel structure. The official life of the deceased, Park Su Su and the private life that his close friend, Yeonam was aware of, were revealed and amplified repeatedly. Secondly, through the thorough understanding of the deceased, his expected social role as a pure breed and his desired to be a scholar were deeply shown in this work. This work was used to express Park's loneliness and his agony that he had to hide. Also it revealed the strict legacy of Bannam Park. His loneliness and desperation that even his family could not empathize were projected in this work. This made us understand his early death. Thirdly, Yeonam captured the prime life of the deceased and described intensively his happiness and sorrows. This eventually could have given him the inner peace. Yeonam's sincere attitude is well shown in the work.
